Sylvia A. Kvocak

Devout Catholic was Prince of Peace volunteer

PITTSBURGH — Sylvia A. Kvocak passed from this life at 8:45 a.m. Thursday (7-18-13) in the Vincentian Home of Pittsburgh with her daughter at her side. She was 91. She previously lived in Sharpsville, and with her daughter, Malanie, in Pittsburgh.

Mrs. Kvocak was born April 26, 1922, in Sharon to Steven and Anna Hacic Yambrovich.

She retired as a meat cutter, having worked at her family’s business, the former Yambrovich Meats in Hermitage.

A devout Catholic, Mrs. Kvocak was a former member of St. Anthony’s Church in Sharon and was a member of The Third Order of St. Francis and the Secular Franciscan Order of Sharon. Her other memberships and activities included the St. Theresa and Altar and Rosary societies of the church. Sylvia was a co-ordinator for Renewal, a diocesan program, and the Cursillo of Sharon; was a volunteer for Prince of Peace Center in Farrell; and was a 50-year member of the South Pymatuning Homemakers Club.

She belonged to the Veseljaci Tamburitzans of Farrell; Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 705 of Farrell; the SNPJ (Slovenska Narodna Podporna Jednota) of Sharon; and St. Anthony Kolo Tamburitza Parent Organization.

Sylvia was a charter member of Al-Anon of Sharon and belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6404, Sharpsville, where she was its chaplain for several years.

Her husband, Andy Kvocak, whom she married Feb. 10, 1945, preceded her in death April 30, 1979.

Surviving are: her daughter, Malanie Kolar and her husband David, Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Jennie, Sarah and Andrew Kolar; and a brother, Vincent Yambrovich, Litchfield, Ohio.

Besides her husband, Sylvia was preceded in death by a brother, Pete Yambrovich.

Service: Funeral Mass at noon Saturday (7-20-13) in St. Anthony’s Church, Sharon, with the Rev. Joseph C. Campbell, pastor, as celebrant.

Burial: Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Hermitage.
