Dorothy McCabe

Sharon judge of elections was active in organizations

---- — A funeral service will be held Wednesday for Dorothy McCabe of New Castle Avenue, Sharon. She passed away of complications from leukemia at 5:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, in Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Northampton, Mass, with family at her side. She was 85.

Mrs. McCabe was born Sept. 10, 1925, in Mahanoy City, Pa., a daughter of Hilbert and Helen Rutkauskas Techentine.

After graduation from high school, she was employed during World War II as a secretary at Koppers Co., Baltimore.

Dorothy had a keen interest in politics, fashion and art; was devoted to her family; enjoyed reading, baking, sewing and playing cards; and traveled extensively.

Dorothy was a past president of the Sharon Mothers of Twins Club; past president of St. Joseph Parochial Grade School Parent Teacher Association, Sharon; was a life member of what is now Sharon Regional Health System Ladies Auxiliary; and served as judge of elections in Sharon 4-1 for many years.

Her husband of 43 years, Charles McCabe, preceded her in death in 1989.

Survivors include: seven children, five sons, Patrick McCabe  and his wife Lois, Amherst, Mass.; Terrence McCabe, San Diego; Dr. Charles McCabe and his wife Kathleen, New Orleans; Keith McCabe and his wife Donna, Cleveland Heights, Ohio; and David McCabe and his wife Dr. Laura McCabe, Haslett, Mich.; and twin daughters, Maureen McCabe, Sebastopol, Calif.; and Dr. Laurel McCabe, Petaluma, Calif.; and 12 grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Helen Seitz, Baltimore; Rose Kadelock, Philadelphia; and Darlene Griffith, Hummelstown, Pa.; and a brother Paul Techentine, Mahanoy City.

Besides her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Jean Techentine, Grace Paone, Margaret Orlando and Myrtle Pierce; and a brother, George Techentine.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lymphoma Research Foundation, 115 Broadway, 13th Floor; New York, NY 10006-1005.
