John L. Lucas

Westinghouse retiree was Orthodox church member

---- — John L. Lucas of 1118 Harry St., Sharon, passed away at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage. He was 79.

Born Aug. 4, 1933, in Sharon, Mr. Lucas was a son of Stephen and Mary Kraynak Lukac.

John was a 1951 graduate of Sharon High School where he played football, basketball and baseball.

He retired from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. after 33 years of service as a computer systems analyst.

A veteran of the Army, John was an anti-aircraft fire control operator. He also served 10 years in the Army Reserves.

He was a member of St. John’s Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church, Sharon, now Hermitage, and a life member and past president of the American Carpatho-Russian Citizens and Social Club in Sharon. He belonged to AARP and Sharon Westinghouse Retirees Association.

John was preceded in death by his wife, the former Ann Gulley, on Sept. 16, 1975.

He is survived by: a daughter, Holly Lucas, Boston; two sons, John Lucas and his wife Buttons, Brookfield; and Charles Lucas, at home; a stepson, Michael Peacher, Nebraska; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, John was preceded in death by his parents; a stepdaughter, Robin Stip; and two brothers, Joseph and George Lukac.

Memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to the Perpetual Care Fund of St. John’s Orthodox Cemetery in care of St. John’s Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church, 3180 Morefield Road, Hermitage, 16148

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday (7-15-13) in St. John’s Orthodox Cemetery Chapel, Hermitage, with the Rev. David Mastroberte officiating. Those attending the service are asked to meet at the chapel at 10:45 a.m.

Interment: Will follow in St. John’s Orthodox Cemetery.
