Margaret J. Ruffing

Hadley woman was phone operator, homemaker


---- — Margaret J. Ruffing of Hadley passed away peacefully at 8:40 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, after more than 1è years battling cancer. She was 80 years old.

Ms. Ruffing was born Aug. 28, 1932, in Greenville to her parents, William Ruffing and Mary McMunigle Ruffing.

She graduated in 1949 from St. Michael’s School in Greenville and went to work for 17 years as an operator at the former Bell Telephone Co.

Ms. Ruffing then spent several years as a homemaker, raising her daughter and selling produce at farm markets. She then worked at Red Lobster in Meadville before retiring.

She was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Church in Greenville and enjoyed traveling on bus trips and spending lots of time doting on her three grandchildren.

Ms. Ruffing is survived by a daughter, Lori McQuiston and her fiancé Troy Gill; and three grandchildren, Maggie, Erin and Liam McQuiston, all Mercer; a sister, Mary Jean Barker; and a niece, Tracy Barker, both Greenville; and two great-nieces, Courtney Barker and Samantha Bowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, John “Jack” Ruffing, W.J. “Whitey” Ruffing and an infant brother; and her former husband, James S. Uhrin.
