Shirley M. ‘Sis’ Guthrie

Sharpsville woman worked as nurse’s aide


---- — Shirley M. “Sis” Guthrie of Sharpsville passed away at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2013, in her residence after an extended illness. She was 52.

Mrs. Guthrie was born Nov. 13, 1960, in Sharon, a daughter of Gloria (Zupo) Barger and David Freeman.

Shirley graduated from Sharon High School and was a member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon.

She worked at John XXIII Home and O’Brien Memorial Care Center as a state-tested nurse’s aide for five years.

Her husband, Scott Guthrie, whom she married July 27, 1984, passed away Nov. 4, 2001.

Sis loved spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends.

She is survived by her mother, Gloria (Zupo) Barger and stepfather, Vincent Barger, Hermitage; a daughter, Gloria Jean Guthrie, Sharon; a son, Joshua Guthrie and his fiance Karen Shelatree, both of Sharpsville; three sisters, Gloria Rowe and her husband Gary, Sharpsville; Jannette Cavacos and her husband Dean, Niles, Ohio; and Ann Sloan and her husband Clark, New Mexico; two brothers, Jerry Freeman and his wife Francine, Hermitage; and David Freeman and his wife Eva, Sharpsville; and seven grandchildren, Abby, Destiny, Christopher, Joseph, Colton, Jakayla and Isaiah. She was loved by many nieces and nephews.

Sis was also preceded in death by her father; and a sister, Betty Jean Freeman.

Service: Memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Tuesday (7-30-13) in St. Joseph Church with the Rev. Casimir Bogniak officiating.

Interment: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.
