Philip G. Courtney

B&LE carpenter was avid bowler

---- — Philip G. Courtney, 190 W. Jamestown Road, West Salem Township, passed away at 7:19 p.m. Friday (7-26-13) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, after an extended illness. He was 63.

He was born Jan. 29, 1950, in Meadville, to Charles Walter and Frances R. (Slezak) Courtney.

He was a 1967 graduate of Conneaut Lake High School and attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.

He worked with the carpenter crew for 30 years at the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad, Greenville.

He served for many years on the credit counsel of Bessemer System Federal Credit Union, Greenville.

He was an avid bowler and bowled in a league at the former Z & Z Lanes, Greenville.

He was a pet lover and liked cats especially, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading science fiction books.

He was a Protestant.

He is survived by his stepmother, Betty Christie of Adamsville; a sister, Darcie Best and her husband Randy of Greenville; four brothers, Raymond J. Courtney and his wife Linda of Warner Robbins, Ga.; Douglas A. Smith and his wife Tonya of Conneaut Lake; Lee J. Courtney and his fiancée Sharon White of Greenville; and Robb C. Courtney and his wife Barbara of Greenville. Also surviving are many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Deborah A. Smith.
