Carmen R. Rossi

WWII veteran worked at Sawhill, Tam O’Shanter

---- — A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday for Carmen R. Rossi of 724 New Castle Ave., Sharon. He passed away peacefully of natural causes at 10:35 p.m. Monday (5-20-13) in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage. He was 91.

Mr. Rossi was born Jan. 15, 1922, in Meadville, a son of Anthony and Jeanette Caravella Rossi.

He attended Meadville schools.

Carmen worked as a mill operator for 18 years for the former Sawhill Tubular, Armco Inc. Following his retirement, he worked as a grounds keeper at Tam O’Shanter Golf Course, Hermitage.

A decorated Army veteran, he served with the 1st Armored Division, the 6th Armored Infantry Battalion during World War II and was honorably discharged on Nov. 21, 1945.

Carmen belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166, Hermitage, and Shenango Valley Catholic War Veterans Post 1446.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Sharon, and the North Sharon Volunteer Fire Company.

Carmen enjoyed a good round of golf and belonged to several local golf leagues through the years.

He will be remembered for his smile and his kindness; he always enjoyed helping others.

He leaves his wife, the former Mae C. Cernuto, whom he married Aug. 29, 1942.

Also surviving are: his three sons, James Rossi and his wife Jeanne, Solon, Ohio; John Rossi and his wife Cheryl, Wheaton, Ill.; and Michael Rossi and his wife Diane, Mentor, Ohio; and a brother, Albert Rossi and his wife Lucy, Meadville; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary D’Amico and Lucy Wiltse; and five brothers, Fred, Joseph, Steven, George and Richard Rossi.

Entombment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage, with full military honors provided by the Hickory VFW Honor Guard.
