Ex-Farrell woman loved entertaining, socializing


- — TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. – Marilyn Jane Yankovich of Traverse City, formerly of Farrell, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2014, in Traverse City. She was 88.

Mrs. Yankovich was born July 23, 1925, in Detroit to Joseph and Emma Schott Brotz. She had two siblings, a sister, Phyllis; and a brother, Wellington.

Marilyn graduated from Grosse Pointe (Mich.) High School in 1943.

She was the beloved wife of Daniel Yankovich, whom she married June 1, 1946, in Detroit. They lived in Farrell until 1959, when they relocated to Southgate, Mich.

Marilyn worked at Park Tire in Lincoln Park, Mich., retiring after 25 years. She lived in Southgate until 2011, when she moved into assisted living in Battle Creek, Mich., and later Traverse City.

She was a member of Calvary Reformed Church of Southgate.

Marilyn loved flower gardening, cooking, traveling, entertaining and socializing. She will be remembered for her giving heart and great spirit of generosity.

Mrs. Yankovich was the loving mother of Mark Yankovich, who survives in Union City, Mich.; and Daniel Yankovich Jr., Pompton Plains, N.J., who predeceased her. She is survived by five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Besides her son, Daniel, she was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sister, Phyllis; and her brother, Wellington.

Service and interment: Committal service at 11 a.m. Saturday (6-7-14) at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.
