E. Jane Shaffer of 2077 Mercer-New Wilmington Road, New Wilmington, passed away Thursday evening (3-21-13) in Hospitality Care Center in Hermitage. She was 87.
Mrs. Shaffer was born Sept. 21, 1925, in Ellwood City, a daughter of George W. and Gertrude M. Wilkin Brown.
She graduated from New Wilmington High School in 1943.
Mrs. Shaffer worked for four years in housekeeping at Westminster College, New Wilmington, and for 10 years in the cafeteria at Wilmington Area High School.
She belonged to New Wilmington United Methodist Church, where she was honored as a 50-year member.
She was a member of the United Methodist Women for many years; a 25-year member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 180, Mercer; a 50-year member of the New Wilmington Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary; and a member and past president of the New Wilmington American Legion Auxiliary.
Her husband, Paul E. Shaffer, whom she married March 18, 1946, died June 26, 1973.
She leaves three sons, Gerald E. Shaffer and his wife Roseanne, Moon Township, Allegheny County; George W. Shaffer and his wife Barbara, New Wilmington; and Geoffrey J. Shaffer and his wife Audrey, Cranberry Township, Butler County; five grandchildren, Steve Shaffer and his wife April, Wichita, Kan.; Tracie and her husband Jeff Smith, Chicago; Kristen and her husband Adam Piccirillo, Hermitage; Starr Shaffer, Sharon; Joseph Shaffer, Cranberry Township; and Kimberly DeLatte, Moon Township; and four great-grandchildren, Cayden, Colby and Delaney Shaffer, all Wichita; and Ruth Smith, Chicago.
She was preceded in death by an infant son; and a sister, H. Eileen Kehna.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Patricia Harbison of New Wilmington United Methodist Church officiating.
Interment: Will follow at Fair Oaks Cemetery, New Wilmington.
