Donald J. Dougherty

Scientist was in band, held stereo speakers patent

---- — Donald J. Dougherty, a resident for the past six months of East Prairie Street, Harrisville, and formerly of Eagle River, Alaska, died at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013, in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township. He was 60.

Mr. Dougherty was born April 20, 1953, in Washington, D.C., to Glen S. Dougherty and Opal J. Hearn Dougherty.

A 1971 alumnus of Chambersburg (Pa.) High School, he attended Virginia Tech and graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science and environment degree from Ferrum (Va.) College.

He was an environmental scientist in Alaska, retiring in August 2012.

He was of the Protestant faith and was a former member of the Lions Club of Anchorage, Alaska.

He enjoyed working in music and was a former band member in four different groups, and was currently performing with the North of 90 Band. He held a patent for omni-directional stereo speakers.

He enjoyed spending time with small dogs and caring for them.

His wife, the former Donna M. Smith, whom he married March 24, 1984, survives at the residence.

Also surviving are: a son, Raymond W. Dougherty and his wife Christina, Rockville Centre, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Tabathia R. Wright; his mother, Opal J. Dougherty, Fairhope, Alabama; two brothers, Robert A. Dougherty and his wife Barbara, Dillard, Ga.; and Raymond A. Dougherty, Fairhope; and his in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Smith, Grove City.

He was preceded in death by his father.
