C. Edwin ‘Ed’ Frye

GATX retiree also worked for Hermitage schools


---- — C. Edwin “Ed” Frye of 25 Golfwood Drive, Hermitage, died at 2:45 p.m.  Wednesday (5-15-13) in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage, after a brief residency, following a long illness. He was 86.

Mr. Frye was born Dec. 24, 1926, in Sharon, a son of Clarence L. and Ruby E. Bell Frye.

He attended Sharon schools.

Mr. Frye retired in 1985 after 38 years of service at General American Transportation Corp.’s former Masury plant, where he was a foreman of the powerhouse. After his retirement and until 1995, Ed served as supervisor of maintenance and grounds at Hermitage schools.

He was a charter member of Hickory United Methodist Church, Hermitage; was an active member of Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 810, also Hermitage; and belonged to Scottish Rite’s New Castle Consistory, where he was a 32nd degree Mason.

He also belonged to the Alliance of Transylvanian Saxons, the former GATX Foreman’s Club and Sons of Italy, Sharon. Ed was a former member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.

His wife, the former Eleanor Harbulak, whom he married March 31, 1948, survives at the residence.

Also surviving are: a son, Mark Frye and his wife Annette, Chardon, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Scott, Allentown, Pa.; and Heather, Chardon. Ed was proud to serve as an honorary grandfather of Jackie and Dani Monaco of West Middlesex. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harold, James and Lee Frye; and a sister, Margaret Cook.

Service: Memorial service at 11 a.m. June 1, 2013, in Hickory United Methodist Church, Hermitage, with the Rev.  David S. Evans, pastor, officiating. A luncheon will follow.

Interment: Morefield Cemetery, Hermitage.
