Mary A. Downing

Sharpsville U.M. member was Cricks Pharmacy clerk

---- — Mary A. Downing, Hermitage, passed away at 4:30 a.m. Sunday (5-19-13) at Clepper Manor, Sharon, following an extended illness. She was 95.

She was born March 24, 1918, in Farrell to Bernard and Michaelene (Pulaski) Nych.

Mary worked 20 years as a clerk for Cricks Pharmacy, Sharpsville.

On Sept. 7, 1940, she married Harold W. Downing, who passed away Feb. 23, 1986.

Very active in her church, she was a member of Sharpsville United Methodist Church and of United Methodist Women. She started the Friday Senior Citizens group at the Salvation Army 30 years ago.

She loved to travel, enjoyed family vacations in the Allegheny Mountains, loved to cook, being an accomplished Polish cook, and made excellent pies.

Mary is survived by her three daughters, Carolyn L. Graham, Liberty Township, Trumbull County; Lois M. Cox, Katy, Texas; and Shirley M. Downing, Sharpsville; a son, James D. Downing, Hermitage; a sister, Julia McClimans, Seattle; and a brother, Adam (Joanne) Nych, Bethel area of Shenango Township. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 12 great great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Adeline Mitrovich, Lucy Graham and Mildred Olshavsky; three brothers, Julius Nych, Edward Nych and Stanley Nych; and two infant sons.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to  First United Methodist Church of Sharpsville, 148 E. Shenango St., Sharpsville PA 16150, in memory of Mary.

Service: Funeral services at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the church.

Burial: West Side Cemetery, South Pymatuning Township.
