Dr. Charles George ‘Chuck’ Ramsey

Missionary was medical doctor, dentist

- — Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, 2013, at 10:43 a.m., Dr. Charles G. “Chuck” Ramsey went home to be with the Lord as his children were singing “How Great Thou Art” and remembering in prayer that Chuck had always been confident and secure in God’s hands, never wavering from the task at hand.

He touched the lives of countless thousands with a lifetime of service, both in Bolivia and here in the USA. He was truly many things to many people. It is fitting that he was called Home to rest on Thanksgiving Day.

The Ramsey family invites you to join them in giving thanks for a life well lived, a race run hard to the very finish, and a trail blazed for them and for others to follow.

Long after his memory fades his legacy will thrive. Dad, you will be missed. We thank God for you and for all those who labored with you. “Descansa con Mama” (Rest with Mom).

Born Dec. 20, 1929, in New Castle, he was a son of George W. and Sadie Hay Ramsey.

He was preceded in death on Jan. 27, 2010, by his wife of 57 years, Jean Beatrice Hampson Ramsey, whom he married on Oct. 10, 1952.

Charles received his bachelor of arts degree from Bob Jones University and his MD, medical degree, from Wheaton College.

Following his honorary doctorate from Pacific States University, he completed one year each of missionary medical school at Biola University and missionary dental school.

He was the founder of both Latcom and Eplabol and served with the South America Mission for 37 years. He was a missionary medical doctor and dentist; he was a farmer and a cattle rancher; he was a pastor and a councilor; he was a recording studio and radio owner; he was an innovator and a wise investor but always gave what he had to help others; he was a teacher and a father; he was a pioneer and a visionary; he was a founder and director of a number of organizations which went on to grow much larger than he initially envisioned.

He was indeed many things to many people. He liked poetry and collecting stamps and coins.

Dr. Ramsey was the first pastor of Evangel Community Church, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by: two daughters, Sharon Joy Hansen of Phoenix; and Bonnie Faith Bell, Duncanville, Texas; three sons, Nathan George Ramsey, DuBois; Timothy A. Ramsey, Ellwood City; and Phillip Charles Ramsey, West Covina, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Albert, Richard and James Ramsey; and a sister, Virginia Chesney.
