A funeral service will be held Saturday for Nicholas “Nick” J. Dyda of Shenango Township. He died at 4:31 p.m. Friday (3-8-13) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell of natural causes. He was 95.

Mr. Dyda was born July 7, 1917 in Iselin, Pa., a son of Josef and Anastasia Dyda.

He graduated from West Middlesex High School in 1937 and Pittsburgh School of Aeronautics in 1939.

He worked for Westinghouse Electric in both Camp Reynolds and Sharon Divisions for 37 years in the maintenance department.

Nick was a member of Sharon Baptist Church, Hermitage, where he was a deacon and a Sunday school teacher.

Nick was owner and operator of West Middlesex Airport; he was a licensed aircraft mechanic. He loved flying his airplanes, traveling, farming and studying the Bible.  

He is survived by: two daughters, Sharon Morris and her husband Larry, and Joanne Gilliland and her husband Chuck, all of West Middlesex; a son, Mark Dyda and his wife Wendy of Cassopolis, Mich; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Eleanor B. McDonough Dyda, whom he married Jan. 23, 1942, and she passed away Sept. 22, 1996; and a sister, Nellie McElhaney.

Burial: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.
