Willie Mae Phillips

Greater Mount Zion church member was homemaker


---- — A funeral service will be held Friday for Willie Mae Phillips of Sharon. She departed this life at 12:10 a.m. Wednesday (10-9-13) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 78.

Ms. Phillips was born April 16, 1935, in Sharkey County, Miss., a daughter to Willie Jones and Mary Wilson.

She was a dedicated homemaker who loved to bake cakes, craft quilts and spend time laughing and praying with her family and friends.

As a longtime member of Greater Mount Zion Church of God in Christ, Farrell, under Bishop Odis Alexander, Ms. Phillips sang in the Hymn Book Choir, was a faithful prayer warrior, served on the Mothers Board and as a deaconess, and was also on the Missionary Board in Erie.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving children, Eddie Mae Gambill and her companion Robert Surratt; Alberta and her husband Kelling Newman; Mary Lee Adams and her husband Ronnie Adams; and Joanna Jasper, all Sharon; three sisters, Alberta Norris, Rosalee Jones and Sara Lee; two brothers, Richard Jones and Robert Lee Jones; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many other relatives including Mildred Wright, her sister-in-law; and dear friends, including Mother Louise Blackwell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandmother, two brothers, two sisters, two sons, a daughter and a cousin.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
