Ruth Miller Benson of Club House Circle, West Middlesex (Shenango Township), passed away Saturday afternoon, Oct. 26, 2013, in her residence. She was 90.
Mrs. Benson was born Aug. 18, 1923, in Grove City to Willis Dale Miller and Elizabeth Grundy Miller.
She attended Springfield Township School and graduated from Grove City High School in 1941. She then was an alumna of Christian H. Buhl School of Nursing and did post-graduate work at the University of Pittsburgh and Villa Maria in Erie, where she received her degree as a registered nurse, specializing in urology.
Mrs. Benson served in the Army Nurses Cadet Corps from 1942-45.
She retired from St. Vincent Health Center, Erie, where she worked from 1970 to 1985.
Mrs. Benson was an active member at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Erie, where she belonged to the Faith Bible Study and the Senior Hand Bell Choir. She also belonged to the Presque Isle Women’s Club and Niagara League Erie County Historical Society.
Mrs. Benson was an avid reader and enjoyed calligraphy and knitting.
Her husband, Carl Christopher Benson, whom she married Jan. 26, 1946, preceded her in death Sept. 26, 1992.
Surviving are her daughter, Judy Odell and her husband Lawrence, with whom Mrs. Benson made her home; her sons, Christopher Benson and his wife Lisa, Erie; and Mark Benson and his wife Anne, Bakersfield, Calif.; three grandchildren, Brian Odell, Corey Benson and Sara Winnie; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Peter Odell.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Willis Dale Miller and Elizabeth Grundy Miller Tanner; and two brothers, Allen Lee Miller and Willis C. Miller.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday in the church, with the Rev. Dirk van der Duim, pastor, officiating.
Interment: Crestview Memorial Park, Pine Township.
