Dean V. Ashton

Ohio hunter, outdoorsman had family living here

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. — Dean V. Ashton, 74, of McDonald, Ohio, suffered a heart attack and died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, while hunting in the mountains of White River National Forest, Colo. He was with his sons, Jeff and Eric; Jeff’s father-in--law, Ron; and friends, James and Jack. Dean would never pass up a hunt. Loving the outdoors, he enjoyed and learned the most primitive ways of hunting and fishing.

Mr. Ashton was born July 6, 1939, in New York City, a son of Vincent and Helen Harley Ashton.

He graduated from Liberty High School in 1958.

Dean then went to work as a carpenter at Delphi Packard Electric Systems, Warren, Ohio, and retired after 37 years in 2002.

He was a member of St. Rose Church in Girard.

A member of Free and Accepted Mason, Dean belonged to William Farr Lodge 672, Girard; Scottish Rite’s Youngstown Consistory; and was a Shriner for 27 years.

He was a member of Vienna Fish and Game Club, National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, Primitive Rendezvous, Black Powder Hunting Association and the Contemporary Long Rifle Association.

Dean and Rose Marie Ragazzine Ashton were married Aug. 1, 1981, celebrating 32 years of marriage this past summer.

Dean leaves: his wife, Rose, McDonald; their son, Jeff Ashton and his wife Jackie, Cortland, Ohio; Rose’s children, whom they raised together, daughter, Michelle Mitchell-Titus and her husband Tracey, McDonald; son, Eric Mitchell and his wife Dana, Girard; Dean’s children, Dean V. Ashton and his wife Karen, Elgin, Ill.; and Joan Ashton and James Ashton and his wife Lisa, all Brookfield; and Lori Ashton-Voytik and her husband Mark, Hermitage; a sister, Diane Hawkins, Hubbard; and a brother, Dave Ashton, Youngstown.

Dean loved and cherished all his grandchildren, Ashley, Malia, Matthew, Alexis, Cheyenne, Cailey, McKenna, Miley, Ashton, Jeffrey, Maci and a newborn due in December.

Family and friends have experienced the loss of a great man, a loving husband, father and grandfather. Dean was an inspiration to everyone he met. He treasured his family and friends; loved working in his workshop; enjoyed bike night, riding on his Harley; and instilling hard work, determination, respect and love in all the members of his family. Dean was loved by all and will be in our hearts forever, till we meet again.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents and twin grandsons, Caiden and Colton Ashton.
