Ernest ‘Ernie’ W. Matvey

Campbell Construction retiree liked to hunt, fish


- — Ernest “Ernie” W. Matvey, who previously resided in Hermitage, passed from this life at 6:08 p.m. Monday (11-11-13) in Hospitality Care Center, Hermitage, surrounded by his family. He was 77.

Mr. Matvey was born Dec. 3, 1935, in Farrell to Andrew and Mary Kenig Matvey.

Ernie graduated from Farrell High School in 1954.

In 2000, he retired from T. Bruce Campbell Construction Co. of West Middlesex, where he was a foreman.

Ernie was of the Orthodox faith. Among his favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing with his family at their camp in Forest County and trips to various casinos.

Mr. Matvey served in the Navy.

His wife, the former Anna F. Kopnicky. whom he married Aug. 16, 1958, survives at home.

Beside his wife, he is survived by: two sons, Mark and his wife Linda, Transfer; and Michael, at home; two daughters, Monica Matvey, at home; and Marilyn and her husband Keith R. McElrath, Hermitage; three brothers, Richard and his wife Ernestine, Mercer; Norman and his wife Rose, Hermitage; and Gerald and his wife Connie, Lackawannock Township. He also leaves two sisters, Dolores and her husband Donald Christy, Hermitage; and Sandra Dimoff, Sharon; and six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Joyce Matvey.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
