John William Michael Sr.

Farrell resident retired from Sharon Steel


---- — John William Michael Sr. of Hamilton Avenue, Farrell, passed away at 6 a.m. Monday morning (5-6-13) in his residence. He was 80.

Mr. Michael was born April 6, 1933, in New Castle to John George Michael and Sadie Mae Haybarger Michael.

He retired in 1990 from the blast furnace department of the former Sharon Steel Corp.’s Farrell plant, where he worked for 33 years.

As an Army veteran, Mr. Michael served during the Korean conflict. He was of the Protestant faith.

His wife, the former Louise Ferne Splitstone, whom he married Feb. 20, 1960, passed away Sept. 24, 1998.

Surviving are two sons, John W. Michael Jr. and his wife Peg; and George E. Michael and his wife Elizabeth, all Farrell; a daughter, Lydia Marie Porreca and her husband Paul, Sharon; and eight grandchildren.

Besides his wife, John was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Kinsey, Ray and Robert Michael; two sisters, Sandy Davis and Ruth Spaulding; and two grandchildren.

Calling hours: 3 to 6 p.m. Friday (5-10-13) in SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 3126 Main St., West Middlesex.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday (5-11-13) in the funeral home with the Rev. George E. Michael, deceased’s son who is affiliated with the Church of God of Prophecy, officiating.

Interment: Volant Cemetery.
