Mary E. Kushay

Byzantine church member had lived in Sharpsville


---- — Mary E. Kushay, a lifelong resident of Sharpsville, passed away peacefully with her family at her side at 9:55 p.m. Sunday May 5, 2013, in John XXIII Home, Hermitage. She was 97.

Mrs. Kushay was born Feb. 21, 1916, in Sharpsville to Vincent and Anna Bayus Magula.

She attended Sharpsville High School.

Mary was a homemaker and, on Feb. 7, 1942, married Michael Kushay, who passed away May 15, 1976.

She was a lifelong member of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Hermitage. For many years, Mary worked catering events in St. Michael’s Center.

She was a member of card clubs, enjoyed gardening and was a devoted and loving mother to her family.

Mary is survived by: her daughter, Patricia and her husband Richard Will, Sharpsville; two sons, Dennis Kushay, also Sharpsville; and William Kushay, Frederick, Md.; a sister, Margaret and her husband Gene Bires, Michigan; a sister-in-law, Natalie Magula, Hermitage; a brother, Steve Magula, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; three granddaughters, Lisa Will-Moody and her husband Michael; Leslie Will-Mallory and her husband Matt; and Holly Will-Jourdan and her husband Adam; and a great-grandson, Jack M. Moody.

Besides her husband, Michael Kushay, she was preceded in death by her father, Vincent Magula; her mother, Anna Magula; and three siblings, Gus Magula, Veronica Evanchan and Michael Magula.

Service: Divine Liturgy at 11 a.m. Thursday (5-9-13) in St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Hermitage, with the Rev. Kevin Marks officiating. A Panachida will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.

Burial: St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Hermitage.
