John Draskovic Jr.

Family businesses owner was township official


---- — A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday for John Draskovic Jr. of 283 Sieg Hill Road, West Middlesex. He passed away at 9:41 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after an extended illness. He was 85.

Mr. Draskovic was born Sept. 19, 1927, in Pittsburgh, a son of John and Anna Cappan Draskovic.

A 1945 graduate of Ambridge High School, he served proudly with the Marine Corps during World War II and the Army during the Korean conflict.

Following his honorable discharge, he was employed for nearly 20 years at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. Along with his wife and children, for 35 years he owned and operated John’s Corner Store and John’s Tractor Supply in Shenango Township.

He was an active member of Shenango Township throughout the years, having served as a township supervisor and a member of the planning commission during the 1990s; and, more recently, on the township sewer authority.

John was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex.

His wife, the former Margaret “Peg” D. Conrey, whom he married Oct. 25, 1952, passed away Feb. 24, 2001.

Surviving are a daughter, Deborah A. Filipski and her husband Robert, Hilton Head, S.C.; two sons, Attorney John W. Draskovic and his wife Maureen A., Erie; and Edward J. Draskovic, Shenango Township; and four grandchildren, whom he adored, John Draskovic and Thomas Draskovic, both Columbus, Ohio; James Filipski, Annapolis, Md.; and Katherine Filipski, a graduating senior at Boston University.

He also leaves a sister, Mildred Chiazzese, Phoenix; and three brothers, Robert Draskovic and his wife Caryl; and Frank Draskovic and his wife Karen, all Shenango Township; and James Draskovic, Wheatland.

Besides his wife, John was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David R. Draskovic, who died Sept. 18, 2006; a sister, Helen Simon; and a brother, William Draskovic.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Sharon Regional Health System Cancer Care Center, 2320 Highland Road, Hermitage, PA 16148.

Entombment: St. Rose Cemetery Mausoleum, Hermitage, with military honors rendered by Honor Guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars posts 6233, West Middlesex, and 5286, Farrell; and American Legion Post 432, Wheatland.
