Anthony ‘Tony’ D’Urso

Owner of Concrete Works made his own wine

---- — A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday in honor of Anthony “Tony” D’Urso of Brookfield. He was called home to be with the Lord at 12:19 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2013, while a patient in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a brief illness. He was 80.

Mr. D’Urso was born July 8, 1932, in New Rochelle, N.Y., a son of Salvatore and Maria Cerro D’Urso.

A 1950 graduate of Brookfield High School, he found employment at the former Golden Dawn grocery store in Masury as well as for a short time with General American Transportation Corp.’s former Masury plant.

Tony eventually started his own business, Tony D’Urso Concrete Works, and finished concrete for more than 50 years before officially washing off his trowel for the last time in 2008.

Tony married the former Carolyn Rozich on June 20, 1953; together they would spend the next 59 years together side by side.

A devout Catholic, he was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community, St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, Vienna. His other memberships include the Brookfield Optimist Club, in which he was a past president; Brookfield Touchdown Club, Brookfield Conservation Club and the Sons of Italy of Sharon.

In his spare time, he enjoyed making “his wine,” going hunting, being outdoors, gardening, traveling, taking cruises to various destinations and cheering on the Cleveland Browns.

Most of all, Tony loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include: his wife, Carolyn, at home; his daughters, Cindy Harris and her husband Al, Girard, Ohio; Cheryl Harklerode and her husband Carl, Poland, Ohio; and Carol Looney and her husband William, Boyleston, Mass.; his sister, Rose Parradiso, Tiffin, Ohio; his grandchildren, Michael Harris and his wife Jennifer; Jennifer Harklerode; and Meaghan, Bridget, Brian and Matthew Looney; his great-granddaughter, Kayla Harris; and his nieces and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Carmella D’Urso and Josephine D’Urso.

As suggested by his family, memorial contributions may be made in Tony’s memory to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community, St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Parish, 4453 Warren-Sharon Road, Vienna, OH 44473.
