Gerald L. “Slice” McGill of Grove City, passed away at 2:26 a.m. Thursday (5-8-14) in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township, after a brief illness. He was 89.
Mr. McGill was born Oct. 6, 1924, in Butler County to Francis Paul McGill and Mary Della McFadden McGill.
He retired from the former Cooper Energy Services, Grove City, where he was a millwright.
As a Navy veteran, he served during World War II from 1944 to 1946 and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 519, Grove City, and American Legion Post 852, Harrisville.
His wife, the former Pearl E. Haggerty, whom he married May 26, 1958, survives at home.
Also surviving are: a son, Alan McGill and his wife Becky; and two grandchildren, Ian and Leah McGill, all Somers Point, N.J.; two sisters, Erla Ostrik, Missouri; and Gyla McGill, Harrisville; a niece, Beverly Sloan, who was a tremendous help in his remaining days; and several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Edith Ritenour; and four brothers, Al, Francis, Joe and Guy McGill.
