Eleanora M. Wiand of Stoneboro passed away peacefully of natural causes at 10:42 p.m. Mother’s Day, May 11, 2014, in Grove Manor, Grove City. She was 98.
Born Sept. 2, 1915, in Lake Township, Mrs. Wiand was a daughter of Charles S. and Kathryn E. Humphrey Steinlechner.
Mrs. Wiand was a 1932 graduate of the former Stoneboro High School where she was a member of the girls basketball team.
During World War ll, Eleanora received her nurse’s training through the American Red Cross. For more than 22 years, she was an office nurse for Dr. John T. Burke, Stoneboro, retiring in January 1981.
Eleanora was a lifetime member of St. Columbkille Church, Stoneboro, where she remained very active for most of her 98 years. She had been a member of the Altar Society and Parish Council, was a teacher of religion for more than 50 years, and served as a lector and a Eucharistic minister, visiting and giving communion to shut-ins.
Eleanora was a woman described as “wonderfully kind” and always true to her faith by serving others. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was a volunteer for Lakeview Meals on Wheels and, in early years, was a den mother and a Girl Scout leader.
Her husband, Harry H. Wiand, whom she married Dec. 1, 1934, preceded her in death Aug. 16, 1973.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan M. White and her husband Dennis, Erie; two sons, John H. Wiand and his wife Patricia, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and Thomas L. Wiand and his wife Sherry, Stoneboro; a daughter-in-law, Celine Wiand, Raleigh, N.C.; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and infant daughter; a son, Terry E. Wiand; two sisters, Ann Patton and Margaret Patterson; and three brothers, Joseph, John and Charles Steinlechner.

Service: Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Thursday (5-15-14) in St. Columbkille Church, 70 Franklin St., Stoneboro, with the Rev. Robert A. Manning, pastor, as celebrant.
Interment: Crestview Memorial Park, Grove City.
