Lawrence A. Sanata

Westinghouse retiree enjoyed gardening, golf

Lawrence A. Sanata, Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage, formerly of Transfer, passed away of natural causes at 3:35 p.m. Friday (3-22-13) in the home. He was 87.

He was born Oct. 10, 1925 in Sharon, the son of Angelo and Margaret Rotunno Sanata.

A lifelong area resident, he graduated from Sharon High School.

In his early years he worked for Pennsylvania Rail Road and for the former National Malleable Casting Co.,  Sharon. He later worked for  Sharon City School District in their maintenance department at both the former junior high school in downtown Sharon, and at the former Wengler Avenue School on Sharon’s South Side. He retired as a welder from the former Sharon Transformer division of the Westinghouse Electric Corp.

He belonged to St. Joseph’s Church, Sharon.

In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, cheering for his Fighting Irish, a round of golf with his brothers and grandsons, and simply spending time at the dinner table with those he loved.

His wife the former Ann M. Zifzal whom he married Sept. 14, 1946 passed away Aug. 9, 1991.

He is survived by his daughter Judith A. Harmison Vagh, Transfer; two sons, Lawrence W. Sanata and his wife Susan, Dublin, Ohio and Robert J. Sanata and his wife Bonnie, Hermitage; five grandchildren, Jeremy Harmison, Michael Sanata, Jason Clepper and his wife Jennifer, Anna Phillips and her husband James, and Nick Clepper; three great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Cameron Phillips, and Natalia “Natie” Clepper. He also leaves his sister, Marie Testani, Hermitage; three brothers, Albert Sanata and his wife Ellen, Brookfield, Charles Sanata and his wife Hazel, Hermitage, and Harry Sanata, Hubbard.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Victoria Donak, and Rosemary M. Moses; five brothers, Anthony “Tony” and William Sanata, and James, Peter, and Joseph Peluso; and two sons-in-law, David J. Vagh, and Kenneth R. Harmison.

Services: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday (3-26-13) in St. Joseph’s Church 79 Case Ave., Sharon, with the Rev. Glenn R. Whitman, pastor as celebrant.

Entombment: St. Rose Cemetery Mausoleum, Hermitage.
