Marie C. Smock, formerly of Hermitage, passed away peacefully at 10:12 a.m. Monday (3-25-13) in St. Paul’s Home, West Salem Township, where she was a resident for the past four years. She was 91.  

Mrs. Smock was born February 28, 1922, in Farrell, a daughter of John and Catherine (Jacek) Gladysz.  

She was a lifelong area resident and a graduate of Farrell High School.  

A homemaker, Marie was a lifelong active member of St. Adalbert’s Church, Farrell, where she was a member of the Rosary and the Infant of Prague Societies.  

She enjoyed making pierogis at the church, gardening, movies, shopping, going out to eat and spending time with her family.  

Her husband, Stanley Smock, whom she married Aug. 9, 1941, in St. Adalbert’s Church, and officiated by the late Rev. C.T. Nagorski, passed away June 25, 1980.

Surviving are: a daughter, Linda Marie Stifter and her husband Frank, Brookfield; three sons, John Smock and his wife Sue, Hermitage; Robert Smock and Susan Plott, Masury; and Jerry Smock and his wife Debbie, also Brookfield; five loving grandchildren, Jason Stifter and his wife Sara; Kelley Gay and her husband Pat; Julie Smock, Lisa Franco and Jeffrey Smock; four great-grandchildren, Mason Dominic, Logan Marie, Kassandra Ortiz and Marianna Franco; a sister, Stella Kohut, Edison, N.J.; and a brother, Edward Gladysz and his wife Lois, Sharon.  

Besides her husband, Marie was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Joseph Gladysz.  

Marie will be sadly missed by her children, grandchildren, family and all who knew her.

Service: Mass of Christian burial will be 11:30 a.m. Monday (4-1-13), in St. Adalbert’s Church, Farrell, with the Rev. Joseph Campbell, pastor, as celebrant.

Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery, Hermitage.
