Gerald J. ‘Bubbles’ Cascavilla

New Castle man was active in Special Olympics, bocce


---- — Gerald J. “Bubbles” Cascavilla, 59, of Florence Avenue, New Castle, passed away the morning of Sept. 28, 2012 in the hospital of Jameson Health System in New Castle.

He was born Aug. 17, 1953, in New Castle and was a son of the late Alfred A. and Dolores “Dodi” Weidner Cascavilla.

He is survived by his wife, the former Sharon Conti, whom he married May 24, 1975.

Mr. Cascavilla in earlier years worked for Shenango China and later for Rockwell International. He attended Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and was a member of the Sons of Italy.

Gerald was very active with the Special Olympics and was chosen to coach for both the national and international Special Olympics. He was asked to go to China as a bocce coach with the Special Olympics. He was active in several bocce leagues including the Union Township Bocce League, of which he was past president.

He enjoyed camping and spending time with family and friends. Gerald was a caring husband, father and grandfather and a very loving man. He also enjoyed the times he spent with good friends at Pizza Joe’s.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Alfred “Fred” Cascavilla and his wife Kelly, New Castle; Bradley Cascavilla and his fiancée Marlene McAllister, New Castle; and Justin Cascavilla and his companion Ashley Parrish, Baltimore; one daughter, Michele Cascavilla Buccelli and her husband Bryan, New Castle; his mother-in-law, Jean Conti-Simpson, New Castle; and seven grandchildren.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday (10-3-12) in the funeral home with Jack Allison, the Rev. James Douglas and Rev. John Grusendorf will officiate.

Burial: Interment will be in Parkside Cemetery.
