Beverly Penney McFarland

New Wilmington-area woman worked at college


- — Beverly Penney McFarland of New Castle Road, Wilmington Township (New Wilmington) passed away at 4:55 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2014, in Jameson Care Center, Neshannock Township (New Castle). She was 85.

Mrs. McFarland was born July 14, 1928, in Pittsburgh to Milton S. Penney and Elizabeth McLaughin Penney.

She was a graduate of Taylor Allderice High School.

Mrs. McFarland was a former secretary in admissions at Westminster College, New Wilmington; and formerly was employed by the Pittsburgh Board of Education and as a clerk at Rexall Pharmacy.

She enjoyed reading, cooking and spending time with her beloved cats.

Her husband, Walter Clayton McFarland, whom she married Aug. 21, 1956, preceded her in death July 13, 2011.

Surviving is a sister, Barbara Shirey, Ligonier, Pa.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a half sister, Nancy Penney Leonard; and a brother, Milton S. Penney Jr.

Calling hours and service: According to Mrs. McFarland’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral.

Interment: Fair Oaks Cemetery, New Wilmington.
