Sharon grad taught there, Farrell, worked at plants

- — A funeral service will be held Tuesday for Calvin Holloway of Sharon. He passed away early Wednesday morning, March 5, 2014, in the intensive care unit of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 59.

Mr. Holloway was born May 9, 1954, in Sharon to Calhoun Holloway and Martha Jane Brewton Holloway.

A 1972 alumnus of Sharon High School, Calvin graduated from Clarion University with dual bachelor’s degrees in communication arts and secondary education. Calvin was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

He taught algebra at Farrell Junior High School and English at Sharon High School.

Calvin lived in Atlanta for many years, working at a variety of jobs, and returned to Sharon in 1987 to care for his mother.

While in Sharon, Calvin was employed at the former Sharon Steel Corp.’s Farrell plant and Mercer Forge Co. His last position was as an inside sales representative at Duferco Farrell Corp.

“Uncle Calv,” as he was affectionately known, adored his nieces and nephews. He attended many Little League games, dance recitals, basketball games and graduations, even though it meant traveling to Atlanta and Philadelphia on a regular basis.

Calvin is survived by: his mother, Martha, Philadelphia; his brother, Randy Holloway, Bloomington, Minn.; his sisters, Teresa Mansell and her husband Bob, Philadelphia; and Wanda Johnson, Stone Mountain, Ga.; and a half sister, Emily Boatwright, Hubbard.

An uncle, aunts, cousins, his dear nieces and nephews, a godson and a host of friends from across the country will miss Calvin’s kind presence and infectious smile.

His father, Calhoun, preceded him in death.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church with the Rev. T. James Harrison, pastor, officiating.

Interment: Morefield Cemetery, Hermitage.
