Ervin ‘Red’ J. Osborne

Sharon Steel retiree was woodworker, Flint Knapper

- — Ervin “Red” J. Osborne of Sharpsville passed away at 3:58 p.m. Friday in his home surrounded by his family after an extended illness. He was 86.

Mr. Osborne was born Oct. 11, 1927, in Sharpsville, a son of Alice B. Stull and Victor E. Osborne.

He attended Hazel Dell School in South Pymatuning Township.

Mr. Osborne worked at the former Sharon Steel Corp.’s Farrell plant as a slitter operator for 38 years, retiring in 1985.

He was of the Protestant faith.

Mr. Osborne served in the Army during World War II, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany.

Red enjoyed farming and he was an avid woodworker and Flint Knapper. He belonged to the Genesee Valley Flint Knappers Association in New York.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia M. Osborne, whom he married June 23, 1950, at home; a son, Keith Osborne and his wife Linda, New Wilmington; three brothers, Don W. Osborne and his companion Ann Crispen, Sharon; David A. Osborne and his wife JoAnn, Clark; and Jerry L. Osborne and his wife Shirley, West Middlesex; four grandchildren, Stephanie Osborne-Tice; Judie Osborne and her husband Matt Greimann;  Shawn Osborne; and Andy Osborne and his wife Kim; and four great-grandchildren, Matthew, Savannah, Cheyanne and Dylan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, William “Bill” Osborne.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. C. Charles Eckles, pastor of IHS Gospel Ministries, Hermitage, officiating.

Burial: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage, with military honors by American Legion Post 432, Wheatland; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6233, West Middlesex; and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286, Farrell.
