Donna C. Beckert

Counseling center retiree won Buhl Day award

- — Funeral service will be Monday for Donna C. Beckert, Carnegie Avenue, Sharon, who passed away at 6:40 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014 in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, surrounded by her family. She was 69.

She was born June 10, 1944, in Gary, Ind., a daughter of Donald and Clara Rosfeld Martin.

Donna was educated in Pittsburgh and was a member of South Hills High School’s graduating class of 1962.

She then attended The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, achieving a degree in fashion illustration, and for a time worked as a commercial artist.

Donna was later employed with Community Counseling Center in Hermitage, serving as an administrative assistant for more than 15 years before retiring in 2010.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Hermitage.

Donna enjoyed needlepoint, artwork and photography. One of her photographs won “Best in Show” at the Buhl Day event last year. She also enjoyed taking Russian language classes and playing bridge with her girlfriends. She was an avid reader, often volunteering her time to Adult Literacy.

Her greatest passion was her family. Her husband, sons and daughters-in-law, and her five beautiful grandchildren were the center of everything and her pride and joy. She looked forward to every visit to New Mexico and a chance to be with Aerin and Ashlin, her gymnasts. Here in Sharon, her time with Anna, Leah, and Will was treasured and filled with laughter and love.

A wonderful wife and mother, an adoring grandmother, a caregiving daughter, an affectionate sister and aunt, and a good friend and neighbor has walked this earth, and that has made all the difference to all of us.

She married her high school sweetheart, Harry E. Beckert, on Oct. 9, 1965; he survives her.

Also surviving are two sons: Kent M. Beckert and his wife Michelle, Albuquerque, N.M.; and William Bradley Beckert and his wife Christey, Sharon; a brother, David W. Martin and his wife Rita, Wexford; five grandchildren, Anna, Aerin, Leah, Ashlin and William Beckert; a brother-in-law, William Beckert and his wife Aurelia; and a sister-in-law, Sis Dorroh and her husband Jim.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Daniel E. Beckert.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Donna’s memory to the Shenango Valley Community Library, 11 N. Sharpsville Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.
