PITTSBURGH – Ralph Harold Wombacker of Connellsville died Friday, March 14, 2014, in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh. He was 65.
A son of Harold and Mary Lou Hopes Wombacker, Mr. Wombacker was born Oct. 7, 1948, in the small town of Moscow, Pa., where many of Ralph’s family members still reside in nearby communities.
Ralph was a 1966 graduate of Sharpsville High School and received his bachelor of science degree in park planning from Penn State University and his master’s degree in park administration from the University of Oregon.
Ralph was a Vietnam veteran, having served his country in the Air Force from May 1968 to April 1972.
He was executive director of Connellsville Redevelopment Authority from 1978 until his retirement April 1, 2008.
Ralph was a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 503, Connellsville Lions Club and Yough River Trail Council, all Connellsville.
In his spare time, Ralph enjoyed golf, playing cards, hunting and fishing with family and friends, bowling with Topper’s and being in the great outdoors.
Ralph was proud and thankful for many accomplishments of the Connellsville Redevelopment Authority and civic organizations to which he belonged. The city of Connellsville, with its beautiful surroundings and good people, became a true home to Ralph and his family.
Ralph is survived by his wife of 39 years, Barbara; two daughters, Bethany Wombacker and her husband Robert Decker, Greensburg; and Kate Armstrong and her husband Eric, Masontown, Pa.; a son, Ryan Wombacker, Connellsville; seven grandchildren, Kylee, Sadie, Aurora, Riley, Sidney, Morgan and Owen; a brother, Carl Wombacker and his wife Cindy, Hermitage; and a sister; Kathy Spiteri, Erie.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Connellsville Lions Club or Yough River Trail.
