Catherine Mackaly

St. Ann’s member was community volunteer

BEAVER TOWNSHIP, BEAVER COUNTY — A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday for Catherine Mackaly, formerly of Norris Avenue, Farrell. She passed from life at 1:05 p.m. Wednesday (3-26-14) in Beaver Meadows Personal Care Community with her sons at her side. She was 93.

Mrs. Mackaly was born Dec. 9, 1920, in Farrell to Joseph and Anna Franek Pillar.

Catherine married her husband John on Feb. 17, 1943, and shared 52 years of marriage with him before his death June 23, 1995.

She previously lived on Norris Avenue, Farrell.

Catherine was a member of the former St. Ann’s Church in Farrell and the parish Altar Society.

She was a graduate of Farrell High School, class of 1939.

She will best be remembered for the great amount of volunteer charity work that she performed throughout the Shenango Valley with numerous organizations. Among her favorite pastimes were playing Scrabble and card games.

Catherine is survived by: two sons, William, Chippewa.; and Raymond and his wife Gloria, Sharon; a grandson, Darren, who is the son of William and resides with his wife Jane in Long Beach, Calif.; a sister, Anna Jara, Greensburg, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

Beside her husband, Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Margaret Timko, and two brothers, Stephen and Albert Pillar.

Calling hours: Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today (3-28-14) in A.E. PUSTINGER FUNERAL HOME Ltd., 1310 Idaho St., Farrell, with a parish Rosary to be recited at 6:45 p.m. Condolences may be e-mailed to pustinger@verizon.net

Service: A blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday (3-29-14) in the funeral home followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann’s Church, 601 Roemer Blvd., Farrell, with the Rev. Donald E. Berdis, pastor, as celebrant.

Burial: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.
