James Russell Glaser

League bowler, golfer was water company employee

---- — James Russell Glaser, Downing Lane, Hermitage, passed away peacefully at 4:53 p.m. Saturday (8-17-13) in the intensive care unit of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 81.

He was born May 7, 1932, in West Middlesex, the oldest of  eight children born to Carl and Gladys Metz Glaser.

Jim was a member of Hickory High School’s graduating class of 1950.

He entered the Navy in 1952 and served with a Seabee battalion as a 2nd class petty officer and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Ribbon.

He worked for 36 years at the Shenango Valley Water Co. which is now Aqua America, Inc.

He was a former member and past president of the Utility Workers of America Union, Local 285.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Sharon.

In his spare time he enjoyed bowling in the Thornton Hall Monday Afternoon Men’s Senior League and golfing with the Reynolds VFW League. He previously bowled with the Sharon Steel Open Hearth League, serving as league secretary.

Jim most of all enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and supporting all of their school- and sports-related activities; he will be sadly missed by all.

His wife, the former Palma Testani, whom he married Feb. 28, 1953, survives at home.

He is also survived by a son, David A. Glaser and his wife Jane, Cortland; two daughters, Karen L. Glaser, Sharon; and Carla J. Glaser, Albuquerque, N.M.; two grandchildren, Jeanette Lordo and her husband Scott, Hermitage; and James Scott Helmetzi, Sharon; four great-grandchildren, Zachery, Taylor, Alexandra and Seth Lordo; three stepgrandchildren, Terry Yonker and his wife Bonnie, Punta Gorda, Fla.; Traci White, North Port, Fla.; and Amanda Brown, Warren, Ohio; eight stepgreat-grandchildren, Keahla, Trenton, Jacob, Corinne, and Isaac White; and Kyle Yonker, Grant Brown and Maya Yonker; four brothers, Ronald Glaser, Hubbard; Dale Glaser and his companion Sandy Mezaras, Sharon; William Glaser and his wife Trudy, Harrisburg; and Robert Glaser and his wife Faith, Indian Trail, N.C.; two sisters, Sally Dufford, Hermitage; and Carol Glaser and her companion John Donaldson, West Middlesex; two aunts, Marge Noga and Myrtle Perroni, both Hermitage; several cousins; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant granddaughter, April Lynn Sample; a brother, Richard Glaser and his wife Marcia Kerns; a brother-in-law, Robert Dufford, an infant niece, Constance Dufford; and a niece, Barbara Parker.

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Service: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday (8-21-13) in Sacred Heart Church, 40 S. Irvine Ave., Sharon, with the Rev. Henry C. Andrae, pastor, as celebrant. A procession will leave the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday for the church.

Interment: St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hermitage.
