Helen E. Locke

Valley View, Sharon Steel worker served in church

---- — A memorial service for Helen E. Locke, 504 Pennsylvania Ave., Farrell, will be held Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, in Second Baptist Church, Farrell. She died at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, in Clepper Manor, Sharon. She was 81.

Mrs. Locke was born June 2, 1932 in Sharon, a daughter of Belton O. Crim and Viola Mae Green.

Mrs. Locke was a longtime Farrell resident. She graduated from Farrell High School in 1949. She worked in customer service at the former Valley View department store in Brookfield and was a food truck driver at the former Sharon Steel Corp.’s Farrell plant.

She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Farrell where she was a Sunday school teacher, president of the missionary society, treasurer, member and former president of the senior choir, assistant financial secretary, and member of the Food Share program.

She married Clifton Locke on March 24, 1967. He preceded her in death Dec. 6, 2004.

Helen is survived by a daughter, Viola M. Cozart, Sharon; three stepdaughters, Janice J. Flint, Cleveland; Rochelle Locke, Youngstown; and the Rev. Clifferette Dunlap and her husband Jeffrey, Youngstown; two sons, Keith E. Austin Sr. and his wife Arlene; and Reuben Austin Jr. and his wife Flora, all Farrell; a foster son, Rev. Forrest Underwood, Farrell; two stepsons, Malvin Locke Sr., Sharon; and Clifford A. Locke, Farrell; a sister, Etta L. Ragster, Sharon; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Willie B. Gunther; three sisters, Frances Gordon, Olive Malloy and Phyllis Carter; and a brother, Raymond Gunther.

Calling hours: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday (9-3-13) in Second Baptist Church, Spearman Avenue, Farrell.

Service: Funeral service at noon Wednesday (9-4-13) in the church with the Rev. Russell Penn, pastor, and Rev. Forrest Underwood, associate pastor, delivering the eulogy.

Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Sharon.
