Nicholas ‘Nick’ Jon Pici

Ohio man was business leader, entrepreneur, CPA

---- — A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday (9-4-13) for Nicholas “Nick” Jon Pici, Howland Township, Ohio, who passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday (8-28-13). He was 56.

He was born June 25, 1957, in Braddock, Pa., to Nicholas John and Delores Rusch Pici.

Nick was full of life and energy.

He loved his family and friends, whom he considered family, and in turn was deeply loved by them.

Nick will be remembered for his generosity and for having a big heart, a big smile, and a big personality.

He was a mentor to many people, sharing his time, experience, and knowledge, and truly enjoyed seeing others succeed.

Nick graduated summa cum laude from Slippery Rock University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

He also earned several awards there including the coveted “Excellence in Accounting Studies” two years in a row, a tribute presented by the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Nick earned a Certified Public Accounting license and began his career at a Sharon-based accounting firm.

In 2008, Nick and his business partner of many years, Sarah R. Baker, founded Phoenix CPAs & Consultants LLC, also in Sharon, which they grew into one of the region’s premier accounting and business consulting firms. He was a member of AICPA and PICPA.

A passionate business leader and skilled entrepreneur, he was integral in the success of many local businesses and companies.

He deeply valued his relationships with his employees, colleagues and business partners.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife, family and friends.

He was very passionate about Pittsburgh sports and riding his Harley.

Perhaps his most important role, and the one he was most proud of, was husband and father.

He loved and was devoted to his family who will carry his memory – his wife of 13 years, Marian DiCristofaro Pici, daughters Natalie and Mary Zofko (fiancé Rob Gillie), and his beloved dog Cooper.

He is also survived by his mother, Delores Gormley; stepmother, Carolyn Pici; brothers, Rick (Christine), Michael (Sharon), John, Daniel (Courtney) and Brian (Angie); sisters, Keri and Angel; mother-in-law, Felicia DiCristofaro; brothers-in-law, Patsy and Anthony (Annette) DiCristofaro; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Nicholas.

If desired, in lieu of flowers Nick’s family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Wounded Warrior Project. Donation forms can be downloaded at and sent to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
