Paul J. Lowers

Town leader organized fireworks display

- — A son of William C. and Elda R. Osborne Lowers, Mr. Lowers was born Aug. 16, 1933, in Wick, Pa.

He attended Slippery Rock High School.

Mr. Lowers had 42 years of service with Cooper Energy Services in Grove City. At the time of his retirement in 1996, he was maintenance supervisor. He was a consultant for Cooper Cameron until 2006. Paul was a partner in Harrisville Auto Sales.

Mr. Lowers was active in community and church affairs. He had served as a trustee and elder for Bethel Presbyterian Church, Slippery Rock, and had served on Harrisville Borough Council for 24 years.

As a licensed pyro technician, he was the originator of the Harrisville fireworks display as a part of Community Days. He also served on the board of directors of Prairie Cemetery, Harrisville.

He enjoyed boating, hunting and fishing and was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association. A patriotic and godly man, he was never happier than when spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren participate in their various activities.

On Nov. 21, 1953, he married the former Barbara A. Hoffman, who survives along with three children, Wendy Sue Turner and her husband Gary; and Paul Joseph Lowers Jr. and his wife Patricia, all Harrisville; and Stephen Alan Lowers and his wife Lisa, Grove City; five grandchildren, Abbie Michael and her husband Lucas, Grove City; Cara Christine Turner, a student at Grove City College; Evan Paul Lowers and Emma Lowers, both Grove City; and Jenny Lee Orient and her husband Joshua, Oakland, Calif.; and two great-grandchildren, Madison Virginia Michael and Landon Paul Michael, both Grove City.

 Also surviving are two brothers, Ronald Lowers and his wife Kathy, Slippery Rock; and William Lowers, California. Several nieces and nephews complete his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Service: Funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday (12-12-13) in Bethel Presbyterian Church, 877 Franklin Road, Slippery Rock, with the Rev. Donna Yanosy and the Rev. Diane Whitman co-officiating.

Interment: Will follow in Prairie Cemetery, Harrisville.
