Mattie J. Eckart

Homemaker born in N.C. lived in Burghill


- — Mattie J. Eckart of Burghill passed away Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at the home of her daughter in Sawyer, Mich. She was 82.

Mrs. Eckart was born Jan. 28, 1931, in Nashville, N.C., a daughter of William and Mary Vick Langley.

She was a homemaker all of her life. She attended Hartford Community Church. She was a former member of the Hartford Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and of the former Hartford Grange 1479.

Mattie was preceded in death Feb. 13, 1988, by her husband, Vincent P. Eckart, whom she married Feb. 6, 1950.

She is survived by three daughters, Marilyn Warren, Sawyer; Margaret Belcher, Durham, N.C.; and Martha Blair, Cortland; a son, Ernest Eckart, Hartford; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Bissett, Henderson, N.C.; and Patty Perry, Conroe, Texas; and a brother, James Langley, Fayetteville, N.C.

She was also preceded in death by two sons, Paul and William; a granddaughter, Angel; and several brothers and sisters.

Service: Memorial service at 2 p.m. June 1, 2014 in Hartford Community Church, 3312 state Route 7, Hartford.

Burial: Meadow Brook Memorial Park, Warren, Ohio.
