---- — Eugene “Geno” A. Quartini of Masury passed away at 7:20 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 93.

Mr. Quartini was born April 25, 1920, in Sharpsville, a son of Frank and Philomena Lombardi Quartini.

He was a lifelong area resident and a 1938 graduate of Brookfield High School.

Following his graduation, he worked as a laborer at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp.

Geno served with the First Army during World War II in the 9th Armored Division, Company B 27th Armored Division, as a rifle and carbine sharpshooter. After his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to the area and eventually owned the family restaurant, The White Rose in Masury, until his retirement in 1985. His son, Howard, continues to operate the well-known eatery that specializes in Italian dishes.

An avid reader, he enjoyed watching football and baseball games, gardening and listening to music, especially opera. He also loved to spend time with his grandchildren and attend their many activities.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Dolores J. Lelii, whom he married Sept. 8, 1949, in St. Vitus Church, New Castle; two daughters, Christine Dennison and her husband Phillip, Canfield, Ohio; and Gina Tizio, Hermitage; a son, Howard Quartini and his wife Dyanna, Hubbard; a son-in-law, Philip Tizio, Hermitage; five grandchildren, whom he adored, Alisa, Philip and Geno Tizio; and Lindsay and Joelle Quartini; and several nieces and nephews.
