Robert Henry Johnston

Ohioan worked for Ford, had son in Greenville

---- — BOARDMAN, Ohio – Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, was the day that the Lord called home his faithful servant, Robert Henry Johnston of Boardman, after 91 years of service.

He was a dedicated husband of 52 years to Eleanor Jane Judy, who died Jan. 31, 2002; and father to his four children, Judy A. Parisi; and Bobbie J., wife of Attorney Ron Knickerbocker, all Boardman; Susan J., wife of Larry Lide, Edmond, Okla.; and Chuck H. Johnston, fiancé of April Smith, Greenville. He also leaves 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He is survived by a brother, James J. Johnston, husband of Nancy, Napoleon, Ohio; a brother-in-law, Clayton Cody, Lakeland, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Jean Judy, Austintown; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Henry N. and Pearle Nellie Brakeman Johnston; a son-in-law, William Parisi; a brother, Lewis and his wife Marjorie Johnston; two sisters, Patricia Cline and Marianne Cody; and a brother-in-law, Richard Judy.

Bob graduated in 1940 from South High School, Youngstown, and was a lifelong resident of the Youngstown area.

He was a Mason of Free and Accepted Masons Wick Lodge 481, Youngstown.

Mr. Johnston was a humble veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. He worked for more than 50 years as a parts manager for various Ford dealerships in the area, retiring in 2001 at the tender age of 79.

His second love was his church, John Knox Presbyterian, Youngstown, where he served faithfully as an elder, Sunday school teacher and member of the choir.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, 1806 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44507; or The Scleroderma Foundation, 300 Rosewood Drive, Suite 105, Davies, MA 01923, in memory of Eleanor Johnston.

Calling hours: Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday (10-10-13) in THOMPSON FUNERAL HOME, 4221 Market St., Boardman; and 10 a.m. to time of service Friday (10-11-13) in John Knox Presbyterian Church, 1806 Market St., Youngstown.
