Services will be held Thursday for Ellen G. Jessup of Masury. She passed away at 5:55 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a sudden illness. She was 73.
Miss Jessup was born March 8, 1940, at home in Champion, Ohio, a daughter to Walter R. and Hilda M. Kerr Jessup.
She graduated in 1958 from Brookfield High School and furthered her education by graduating in 1962 from Youngstown State University, with a bachelor’s degree in education. She eventually received her master’s degree in special education from YSU.
Miss Jessup started her career as an elementary school teacher with Brookfield Local School District and later became a special education teacher. She retired after 30 years of service to the district.
A loving and caring person, Ellen continued her commitment to teaching and education. She became director of the preschool at Brookfield United Methodist Church, a position she held for the past 22 years.
Her church, Brookfield United Methodist, was very important to her. She was a member of Charlie’s Angels Sunday School class and the Red Hat Society.
In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling, crocheting, knitting and cross-stitch. Most of all, she loved “her children.”
Survivors include her sisters, Lois A. Davis, Champion, Ohio; and Alice M. Hale, Masury; her brother, Walter R. Jessup Sr. and his wife Shirley, Masury; and her many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Phyllis Spencer, Carol Carter and Hilda Gibson; her nephews, James Stewart, Darrel J. Green and Danny Spencer; and her niece, Shelly Hannuksela.
As suggested by her family, memorial contributions may be made to Brookfield United Methodist Pre-School, Box 22, Brookfield, OH 44403.
