Mairi Colleen Smith

Stoneboro woman worked for federal government

- — Mairi Colleen Smith, Stoneboro (Worth Township), passed away at 6:55 a.m. Thursday (10-24-13) in West Middlesex from injuries she received in an automobile accident. She was 38.

She was born Aug. 16, 1975, in Franklin to Marlin W. and Colleen F. McClelland Smith.

She was a 1993 graduate of Franklin High School and a 1997 graduate of Westminster College with a degree in business and political science.

Mairi was currently working for the federal government out of Youngstown.

She grew up as a member of Polk Presbyterian Church.

Mairi loved life and greeted it every day with a positive attitude and embraced it with family and friends. It was said “the only friend she didn’t have was the one she hadn’t met.” Her love of family was special toward her niece Mairi Andra, who fondly called her “Aunt Teenie.” She also loved her grandchildren Ace and Riley and loved shopping for them.

She loved her country and was very patriotic. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved gardening, canning and taking care of her animals, especially her dog, Casey.

As a wrestling fan she enjoyed watching high school and NCAA matches.

She is survived by longtime companion and significant other of 17 years, John K. Hogue, at home; two stepdaughters, Stacy L Edwards and her husband Tanner, Jackson Center; and Lauren A. Buchanan and her husband Jarett, Grove City; a stepson, Jonathan K. Hogue, Stoneboro; a special niece, Mairi Andra Voorhees, Franklin; two grandchildren, Ace Buchanan and Riley Edwards; her mother, Colleen F. Scurry and her husband Garrett “Pat,” Polk; her father, Marlin W. “Smitty” Smith, Sandy Lake; a sister, Maggie K. Voorhees and her husband Ryan, Franklin; and two stepsisters, Maggie Rougier-Chapman and her husband Duncan, Raleigh, N.C.; and Kelly Donnelly and her husband Michael, Half Moon Bay, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Dr. James H. and Alma McClelland; her paternal grandparents, Herman and Grace Smith; and her in-laws, John and Arlene Hogue.

Funeral: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday (10-28-13) in Polk Presbyterian Church, 729 Main St., Polk, with the Rev. Diane Whitman, pastor, assisted by Rev. Dr. John G. Hamilton of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Bridgeville, Pa.

Interment: Old Sandy Cemetery, Sandy Creek Township.
