Elizabeth Battyanyi

Transfer woman married 75 years, welcomed guests


- — Elizabeth Battyanyi of Transfer passed away peacefully at 7:58 p.m. Friday (10-25-13) in Hospitality Care Center, Hermitage, after a short illness. She was 94.

Mrs. Battyanyi was born to Adam Klein and Anna Bastian Klein on Jan. 3, 1919, in Sharon.

She married her husband, Joseph Battyanyi Sr., on Aug. 6, 1938, and celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary together this year.

Elizabeth was a doting mother and grandmother who made sure that everyone was taken care of and that guests always felt welcome in her home. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and cooking.

She was also strong in her faith and was a member of the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Hermitage.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edward Klein; and four sisters, Joan Klein, Louise Burns, Sophie Owens and Anna Snider.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Joseph Battyanyi Jr. and his wife Barbara, Transfer; a daughter, Carol Zellefrow, Sharon; four grandchildren, William Hackett, Gilbert, S.C.; Lenny Derr, Sharon; Joseph Battyanyi III and his wife Susan, Midway, Ga.; Kenneth Battyanyi and his wife Chris, Carnegie, Pa.; four great-grandchildren, Joseph Battyanyi IV, Nicholas Battyanyi, Michelle Battyanyi and Jessica Battyanyi; two brothers, John Klein and his wife Ruth; and James Klein; also by Dorothy Davis and Eleanor McGill.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday (10-29-13) in the chapel of St. Rose Cemetery, Dutch Lane, Hermitage, with Pastor Todd Williamson of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Hermitage, officiating.
