Joel Sabella

Farrell native had career in food, grocery industry

— Joel Sabella, Hubbard, passed away Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, in St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown. He was 83.

Mr. Sabella was born March 21, 1930, in Farrell, a son of the Rev. Anthony Sabella and Rita Stigliano Sabella.

He was a 1948 graduate of Sharon High School.

Mr. Sabella was a salesman in the food industry for 33 years and later served as merchandise director for seven years for Giant Eagle Stores of Ohio, retiring in 1988.

He was a member of First Christian Assembly of Liberty, where he taught Sunday school for 55 years.

Joel was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

As a veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean conflict.

He will be sadly missed by his family: his wife, the former Nancy Venditti, whom he married July 7, 1951; his children, Tom Sabella and his wife Patty, Nashville, Tenn.; Mark Sabella and his wife Jean, Olean, N.Y.; the Rev. James Sabella and his wife Sherry, Springfield, Mo.; and the Rev. Randy Sabella and his wife Dorey, Malaga, N.J.; eight grandchildren, Tony Sabella, Gina and her husband Kent Murawski, Joel Sabella, Philip Sabella and his wife Maria, Jon Sabella, Joseph Sabella, Lindsey Sabella and Niki Martello; and four great-grandchildren, Kole, Ava, Jon and Jakey.

He also leaves his brother, the Rev. Ty Sabella, Sharon; his sister-in-law, JoAnne Sabella, Largo, Fla.; and a host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Daniel Sabella; and his sister-in-law, Antoinette “Ann” Sabella.
