John ‘Jack’ Stewart Kimmel

Sawhill retiree was former councilman in Wheatland


---- — John “Jack” Stewart Kimmel of Chestnut Street, Wheatland, passed away Wednesday evening, Sept. 11, 2013, in the home of his son. He was 97.

Mr. Kimmel was born Oct. 23, 1915, in Wheatland to John Jay and Minerva Stewart Kimmel.

He was a graduate of Farrell High School in 1933 and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps.

John retired from Sawhill Tubular after working in its storeroom for 39è years.

He enjoyed hunting, reading, gardening and his memberships in Free and Accepted Masons and Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 103, Sharon.

John formerly served as a councilman in Wheatland. He was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church of Greenfield.

His wife, the former Irene Florence Wassam, passed away May 2, 1997.

Survivors include: a daughter, Ruth Anne Perell, Niles, Ohio; a son, John C. Kimmel and his wife Donna, West Middlesex; a brother, Harold “Wray” Kimmel and his wife Delores, Mercer; a sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Lee, Carlisle, Pa.; two grandsons, Michael and Scott; and two great-grandsons, Austin and Nicolas.

Besides his wife, John was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, John R. Kimmel and Jill N. Kimmel; and two brothers, Robert and Hugh Kimmel.

Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. today (9-13-13) in SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 3126 Main St., West Middlesex.

Service: Funeral service at 10 a.m. Saturday (9-14-13) in the funeral home with the Rev. David Wayne Hunt officiating.

Interment: Will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.
