Lois L. Popovitch

Gentle Shepherd member baked bread, cheesecake

-----

- — Lois L. Popovitch of Sharon passed away at 5:05 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a sudden illness. She was 78.

Mrs. Popovitch was born Jan. 20, 1935, in Harrisville to Merle Arblaster and Edith Stillwagon Arblaster.

Lois was a warm and boisterous person who loved to take care of others. She used to bake fresh bread and hand the extras out to neighbors, along with her famous cheesecake.

She loved her husband, Thaddeus Martin Popovitch, who passed away in 2004 after 33 years of marriage.

Mrs. Popovitch enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was riding horses or fishing with her family.

Very strong in her faith, she was a member of Gentle Shepherd Church of the Nazarene, Hermitage, serving as a Sunday school teacher for more than 30 years and singing in the church choir.

After all these things, however, her family was her pride and joy. She used to love taking care of her children and baby-sitting her grandchildren and great-grandchild and never missed a birthday of anyone in her family.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Mrs. Popovitch is survived by: her children, Denise Walsh, Sharon; Leonard Thorpe and his wife Sharon, Panama City, Fla.; and Brenda Szugye and her husband Carl, and Thaddeus Myron Popovitch and his companion Melissa Rhoades, all Sharon; her brothers, Henry Arblaster, Slippery Rock; and Gary Arblaster and his wife Carol, DuBois; sisters, Barbara Maxwell and her husband Ken, Grove City; Judy English and her husband Don, Jackson Center; and Jan Ketler and her husband Dale, Edmond, Okla.; a stepsister, Doris Neiderheiser and her husband Ken; and a sister-in-law, Mariam Patterson, all Grove City; grandchildren, Tiffany Walsh, Greenville; and Brian Walsh, Joey Walsh, Briana Szugye and her companion Timothy Cornelious Jr., Carl B. Szugye, Anthony Popovitch and Shelby Popovitch, all Sharon; and a great-grandchild, Timothy B. Cornelious.

Besides her husband, Lois was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Norma McGranahan; a stepbrother-in-law, Kenny Neiderheiser; and a half brother, Dave Patterson.
