Margaret Mary ‘Peggy’ Brown

Beloved Disciple member loved to cook, play cards

- — Margaret Mary “Peggy” Brown, formerly of College Avenue, Grove City, and Countryside Convalescent Home, East Lackawannock Township, passed peacefully at 12:03 a.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, in Orchard Manor, Pine Township, after a brief illness. She was 94.

Mrs. Brown was born Dec. 28, 1918, in Frogtown, Jefferson County, to Harry A. Bell Sr. and Katherine E. “Carrie L.” Eshbaugh Bell.

A homemaker, she was a member of Church of the Beloved Disciple, Pine Township.

During her younger years, she enjoyed dancing and was on a bowling team in Grove City. She was a former member of Women of the Moose and was a leader in Pine Grove Girl Scouts.

Peggy was an amazing cook and prepared many Sunday and birthday dinners for her large family. She was an avid card player; many games of pinochle were played around the kitchen table.

While living at Countryside, she enjoyed playing bingo and helping fellow residents.

Her husband, Alexander T. Brown, whom she married June 27, 1936, passed March 28, 1996. They were married almost 60 years before he preceded her in death.

She is survived by a large and loving family. Survivors include: a son, Timothy J. Brown and his wife Rebecca, Ellwood City; five daughters, Patricia Ann and her husband Samuel Unrue, Fredonia; Martha J. Coulter and her husband James, Boyers; Katherine D. Mallicoat and her husband Charles, Rockford, Ill.; Joan M. Heasley and her husband Dennis, Mercer; and Paula A. Paul and her husband Robert, Charlotte, N.C.; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Besides her loving husband, Alexander T. Brown, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Frank E. Bell and Harry A. Bell Jr.; twin granddaughters, Rachael Lynn and Gretchen Marie Brown; a son-in-law, Edward J. Decker; and a grandson-in-law, George E. Big Canoe.

The family wishes to thank the compassionate staff of Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township, and Orchard Manor for the comfort and care given.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
