---- — Barbara Ann Swartz, McConnell Road, New Wilmington, passed away suddenly of natural causes at 9:50p.m. on Tuesday (7-2-13) at UPMC Horizon Hospital, Farrell.  She was 65.

A lifelong area resident, she was born Sept. 24, 1947 in Farrell, a daughter of Dennis Shanes and Mary Hazel McGlumphy Shanes.

She attended Brookfield schools and spent her adult life as a homemaker raising and caring for her family.

Barbara was an avid bingo player and she was a member of the Royal Order of Moose, Lodge 55 in Farrell.

She married Hugh O. Swartz on March 12, 1971 and he survives at home.

She also leaves behind a son, John James Swartz and his wife Amy of Jamestown; a daughter Melissa Ann Sherman and her husband Gene of Masury; four grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, a son Dennis L. Thompson; a sister Karen Fleeger; her step-mother Vivian Shanes, and a stepsister Bertha Meckley.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s memory to the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
