Betty M. Layman of 2366 Saratoga Drive, Hermitage, formerly of 927 Park Ave., Farrell, died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, July 4, 2013, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a long illness. She was 92.
Mrs. Layman was born Oct. 11, 1920, in Sharon, a daughter of Robert D. and Mary Unangst Homer.
She was a high school graduate.
A longtime active member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Hermitage, Mrs. Layman served as an elder and was a church secretary for more than 20 years.
Betty later worked for Mahoning Bank’s Brookfield branch for 10 years.
She was a member of White Shrine of Jerusalem and Order of the Eastern Star.
Betty was an avid flower and vegetable gardener and loved to play cards, especially Euchre.
Her husband, Harold J. Layman, whom she married Aug. 8, 1942, died in February 1986.
She is survived by: two sons, Robert C. Layman and his wife Patricia, Sharpsville; and Richard H. Layman and his wife Margie, Charleston, S.C.; a sister, Virginia Shank, Hermitage; a brother, Donald L. Homer and his wife Peg, West Middlesex; five grandchildren, Todd Layman, Terry Layman and his wife Melissa, Jody Aiuppy and her husband Duane, Timothy Layman and his wife Tracey, and Jamie Rizza and her husband Erin; and seven great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Betty was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jack L. Layman; a granddaughter, Kimberly Sue Layman; and a brother, R. Dale Homer.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday (7-9-13) in St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Hermitage, with the Rev. Merlin L. Conrad, retired pastor and friend, officiating.
Interment: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.
