Eugene “Gene” Cwynar of 2750 Winner Road, Clark, passed away at 3 a.m. Thursday, July 4, 2013, in Hospice of the Valley, Poland, Ohio. He was 91.
Mr. Cwynar was born Nov. 17, 1921, in New Castle, a son of Peter and Helen Cwynar.
He moved as a young child to Poland, Europe, where he was raised, educated and served as a captain in transportation with the Polish military police.
Mr. Cwynar emigrated from Poland in 1949 and moved back to the United States, settling in the Shenango Valley.
He was employed for 10 years at the former Sawhill Tubular Products.
A gunsmith, he owned and operated Gene’s Gun Shop on Sharpsville Avenue in Sharon until the 1980s when he moved to his current home, where he farmed for many years.
He was a member of St. Adalbert’s Church, Farrell. Gene enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a life member of the Nation Rifle Association (NRA).
His wife of 47 years, the former Mary Pandza, passed away Aug. 5, 2006.
Surviving are a daughter, Anna Pietraszek; and two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all Poland, Europe. He also leaves two sisters-in-law, Blanche “Billy” Cwynar and Ida Pandza; and several nieces and nephews including Thaddeus and Wilma Cwynar, who were his caregivers.
Besides his parents and wife, Gene was preceded in death by three brothers, Teddy, Henry and Alex Cwynar; and a sister, Mary.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Adalbert’s Church, 1035 Fruit Ave., Farrell, PA 16121; or Hospice of the Valley, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, OH 44514.
